TCGplayer Shipping Guidelines for Sellers

Every TCGplayer shipping rule that matters comes down to the order's value. Here are the thresholds, what counts as tracking, and how to ship each tier without paying for a lost package.

TCGplayer doesn't tell you exactly how to ship every order, but it does publish a small set of rules that decide who pays when a package goes missing. They all come down to one number: what the order is worth. Get the thresholds right and a "never arrived" claim is a quick tracking lookup instead of a refund out of your pocket.

The value thresholds, in one table

These come from TCGplayer's seller help center shipping guidelines (as of September 2026 — TCGplayer can change them, so check the current article if something looks off):

Order valueWhat TCGplayer expectsTypical way to ship
Under $20No tracking requiredStamped plain white envelope (PWE)
Over $20Tracking recommended for your own protectionPWE, or a tracked letter/package if you want protection
$49.99 and upTracking / delivery confirmation requiredBubble mailer with tracking (e.g. USPS Ground Advantage)
$250 and upTracking and signature confirmation requiredTracked package with signature — tell the buyer to expect it

The key sentence in TCGplayer's seller agreement is the one that bites: if a buyer says a package never arrived and you shipped without the tracking or signature the order required, you generally can't win that dispute. The refund comes out of your payout.

What counts as "tracking"

Use a carrier TCGplayer's Seller Portal integrates with — currently USPS, UPS, and FedEx — and enter the tracking number on the order with the correct carrier selected. A number typed under the wrong carrier looks broken to the buyer and to TCGplayer's support team, which defeats the purpose.

A plain stamp on an envelope is not tracking, no matter how carefully you packed it. Neither is a photo of the envelope in the mailbox.

Under $20: the plain white envelope

Most singles orders are small, and a PWE is how nearly every seller ships them: card in a penny sleeve, sleeve in a toploader or card saver, taped shut, sandwiched in a folded index card or thin cardboard, inside a #10 envelope with a stamp. We cover the full process — including the USPS "nonmachinable" rule that trips up new sellers — in How to Ship Trading Cards in a Plain White Envelope.

One thing that's easy to miss: if the buyer paid for expedited shipping, ship it tracked regardless of the order value. They paid for speed and visibility, and a PWE delivers neither.

$20 to $49.98: the judgment zone

Here tracking is recommended, not required. The math is simple: a tracked mailer costs you a few dollars more than a stamp, and a single lost $40 order wipes out the savings from a lot of envelopes. Many sellers draw their own line somewhere in this range — tracked above $25 or $30 — and put that line in their store's shipping notes so buyers know what to expect.

$49.99 and up: always tracked

This is the line that matters most, because it's not optional. Ship in a bubble mailer with tracking, and upload the tracking number before the order's ship-by date. A tracking number added late doesn't undo a late-shipment mark on your account.

$250 and up: signature required

Add signature confirmation when you buy the label, and send the buyer a quick message so they know someone has to be there to sign. A missed-delivery notice is far better than a package sitting on a porch.

Let the app sort it for you. Upload your TCGplayer shipping export to TCG Speed Shipper and the new Shipping Plan reads each order's value and tags it: Envelope OK, Tracking recommended, Tracking required, or Signature required. Then print just the envelope orders straight onto #10 envelopes, and just the tracked ones as 4×6 labels — two downloads, one CSV, and you're only charged once per order.

Shipping on time

Every order shows a ship-by date in the Seller Portal. Ship and confirm before it, every time — on-time shipping is one of the metrics behind your seller level, and late or unconfirmed orders are one of the fastest ways to end up in suspension trouble. If orders sit as "shipping not confirmed," read what that status means and how to clear it.

International orders

International orders have their own rules and customs forms, and what's allowed depends on your settings and the destination. Check TCGplayer's international seller FAQ before you enable them, and never ship an international order in a way the listing didn't promise.
